Oscar Merritt

After a short illness Oscar Merritt spirit has gone home June 10, 2022 to rest with the lord. Oscar Merritt was born into this world on January 28, 1946 in New Orleans, Louisiana to the union of Willie Merritt and Alice Merritt whom preceded him in death in 1992 and 2002 respectively. Oscar spent his childhood on the South Side of Chicago, where he completed his elementary and high school education at Hess Upper grade Elementary and Farragut High School respectively. Oscar married Darlinda on June 11, 1977 where she then became a Merritt. This was a love one could only dream of. Darlinda, who preceded Oscar in death, gave birth to their first daughter Darlene Merritt whom preceded him in death.

Oscar leaves to mourn 4 beautiful daughters Angela (Kirby) Danielle (Thomas) Chanel and Zharia; 2 Sons Oscar and Aaron; a special granddaughter that he raised from birth: Jeanette, and 9 special grandchildren: Mario Patton, Marcus Patton, Tiffany Patton, Rosie Barlow, Alice Merritt, Javontae Payne, Briana Merritt, Robert Long, Darrell Graham and a host of many other grandchildren great-grandchildren.

Oscar also leaves to mourn 4 brothers: William A Merritt, Robert, Russell, and late Johnny, and 6 living brothers Lionel, Donald, Ronald, Michael, Jerry and Abraham. 2 sisters Joyce and Pam whom proceeded him in death and 1 living sister Tremelia Merritt. And a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, and 2 special friends Jarvis Chapman with the big shoes and Sheyenne Houlden the little black girl.

Arrangements entrusted to Olen Funeral Home of Harvey: 15700 S. Emerald Ave., Harvey, IL 60426. Visitation for Oscar will be held on Friday, June 17, 2022 from 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Visitation to continue on Saturday, June 18, 2022 from 3:30 PM until 5:30 PM. Interment Private.
